Update | San Juan Island School District and teachers union met through Sunday evening - no settlement reached

San Juan Island School District Superintendent Rich Thomposon sent an email release at about 8:30 p.m. tonight, Sunday, Aug. 31 reporting no collective bargaining agreement has been reached between the two side.

The contract expires on Aug. 31.

Bargaining discussion will continue tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 1 and Thompson said any changes on the contract talks and whether school will open Tuesday, Sept. 2 will be reported tomorrow.

Superintendent email message:

Both the San Juan Island School District and the San Juan Education Association (teachers union) met Sunday afternoon and Sunday evening to work on a  new collective bargaining agreement to replace the agreement which expires today.  Both sides continue to share proposals and exchange ideas in an effort to reach agreement.  No agreement was reached as of Sunday evening.  The district will update the community on bargaining on Monday September 1, 2014, and communicate any possible changes to school for Tuesday, September 2, 2014.
