OPALCO lineman in stable condition, recuperating after 6-foot fall

A Friday Harbor man is reportedly in stable condition, good spirits and expected to be released from a Seattle-area hospital later this week after falling roughly six feet while repairing a power line early Wednesday.

Orcas Power & Light Cooperative technician Bob Belcher suffered minor injuries from a 6-foot fall shortly after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13. Belcher, who was taken by ambulance initially to Peace Island Medical Center in Friday Harbor for treatment, was working to restore power in the wake of a storm-related outage on San Juan Island at the time of the fall, according to OPALCO spokeswoman Suzanne Olson.

An Co-op employee of nearly 15 years, Belcher was transported to Seattle's Harborview Medcal Center for further evaluation and treatment later that day. He suffered relatively minor injuries that are not expected to require surgery, Olson said.
