Passages: Big John Vejvoda, retired police officer, dies

Big John Vejvoda, a retired police officer and a long-time member of the San Juan Lions Club who was a fixture at its fund-raising events, has passed away.

"Big John Vejvoda passed away last night. He was at home with his wife, Shirley," Minnie Knych reported in an e-mail this morning. "Our condolences to his wife, Shirley; daughters, Nancy and Susie; and his son, John.

"There is no word at this time about a memorial service. Arrangements are being made with Evans Funeral Home. You can send cards and notes of condolence to Shirley Vejvoda at P.O. Box 1328, Friday Harbor, WA 98250.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time."
