San Juan Community Theatre joins more than 400 theaters across the country in presenting the Metropolitan Opera’s Summer Encores, featuring select performances from its Live in HD series, beginning Sunday, at 2 p.m., with a Las Vega twist on Verdi’s “Rigoletto.”

SJCT’s Sunday screenings feature five Live in HD broadcasts, beginning, July 6, at 2 p.m., with a Las Vegas twist on Verdi’s Rigoletto, followed by Puccini’s La Rondine (July 20), Verdi’s Otello (Aug. 3), The Enchanted Island (Aug. 17) and Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette (Aug. 31).

Since launching its Live in HD series in December 2006, the Metropolitan Opera has become a leading producer of alternative cinema content, hitting 15 million tickets sold in April, with Puccini’s La Bohème.

The Community Theatre also broadcasts the National Theatre Live productions from Great Britain. SJCT’s partnership with both programs was made possible through a generous bequest from the late Dodie Gann and underwriting from the McGee Foundation.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students, and are available online at www.sjctheatre.org, or at the SJCT box office, 378-3210.
