Town birthday photo Sept. 20; party Feb. 9

The Town of Friday Harbor’s 100th birthday is Feb. 9.

A year of special events will begin at the San Juan County Fair, Aug. 16-19, and will conclude at the 2009 San Juan County Fair.

Events include a community photograph Sept. 20 on the San Juan County Courthouse lawn (all residents can assemble there to be included in the photo); and a town-sponsored birthday party Feb. 9, 3-6 p.m., at the San Juan County Fairgrounds.

The community birthday party will include a salmon dinner, activities, presentations and a large birthday cake. The event is free and open to the public.

In addition, Mike and Julia Vouri and the San Juan Historical Society are authoring a centennial photo history.

The Journal of the San Juan Islands will publish a special section devoted to the Centennial Celebration, including features and calendar of events. Other centennial information is available on www.historicfridayharbor.org.
