‘Idols’ raise $1,707

Jason Loop sings a heartfelt rendition of Tim McGraw’s ‘Don’t Take the Girl,’ at Saturday’s Relay Idol karaoke contest at Herb’s Tavern. The event, presented by Islanders Bank’s Relay for Life team, raised a total of $1,707 for the local Relay for Life, which benefits the American Cancer Society. Relay for Life culminates in a round-the-clock walk on the Friday Harbor High School track July 25-26. Loop was one of 12 singers who sang two songs each in front of a packed house, with cash donations determining the winner. The eventual winner with the most money in her bucket was Jessica Dickson, who sang ‘Fast Car’ by Tracy Chapman. To learn what other teams are doing to raise money, attend the next Relay for Life team captains meeting Tuesday, 6 p.m. in Islanders Bank on Blair Avenue. - Journal photo / James Krall
