There's a new era in store for the Friday Harbor Food Bank.

Located on Market Street, the Food Bank will be open Saturdays, 2-5 p.m., beginning June 7. That's in addition to its existing hours of operation, Wednesdays from noon to 2 p.m.

The move is designed to better serve the community through expanded hours and by being open on a day that may prove more convenient for many, according to Dave Tietjen, chairman of the Food Bank board of directors.

In addition, Tietjen said, on Saturdays a Spanish-speaking person will be on site to help in translation. The weekend operation will be supervised by Sally Stern and volunteers are needed for that shift, he said.

Food Bank President Dorothy Lawson will continue to manage operations on Wednesdays.

For information or to volunteer, call 378-5556 or 378-6596.
