Merchants, marching bands, choo-choo trains, bubble machines, donkeys, dogs, horses, candy galore, and even a rogue band of pirates, Friday Harbor's 4th of July parade had something for everyone. And the timing could not have been more opportune.

The annual Independence Day parade, sponsored by the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce was blessed by buckets of dazzling sunshine. It drew 59 entries in  all, including the University of Washington marching band, which delivered a mesmerizing performance, and took place on the most spectacular day of summer, so far.
