No ID required: Sheriff installs 'anonymous' tip line

March 4, 2012 · Updated 1:05 PM

The San Juan County Sheriff's Department is set up to receive and collect anonymous "tips".

The number of the TIP LINE is (360) 370-7629, and messages left at that number go directly to a voice mailbox that will be checked each business day, Sheriff Rob Nou said in a prepared statement last week announcing the installation of the tip line.

Nou cautioned that the 911 emergency number— not the tip line — should be used to report a crime in progress or for an incident in which response from a deputy is needed. The business number of the Sheriff's office is 378-4151.

Tips may also be sent via email to an off-site clearinghouse at, www.wetip.com. We Tip.com also has a toll-free number for drug tips, 1-800-47-DRUGS. Information submitted to We Tip.com is typically delayed before it reaches the Sheriff's office.

Nou said that tips can provide important information and help law enforcement officials solve crimes and address community concerns.

"We welcome the extra eyes and ears throughout the island to help us better serve and protect you" Nou said.
