The weather is better.  The sun is out more often.  And with great weather comes —  an increased risk of fire.

The time for burn piles is about to end. All burn permits expire after Thursday, June 30.

Controlled burning should resume in October, depending on fire-risk conditions at that time.

Recreational fires — those measuring two-feet in diameter or less — are still allowed after June 30. Barbecues and fireplaces are not affected by the end of the burn permit season.

For more information, contact your local fire district, or the Fire Marshal's office, 378-3473. On Orcas call the Deputy Fire Marshal for info, at 376-2331
