Friday Harbor's Kevin Holmes bested the competition to earn first place in the The San Juan Islands Visitors Bureau recent photo contest.

The Visitors Bureau received 19 entries from around Washington state, with each participant allowed a maximum of ten entries.

Photos were judged on their ability to communicate the theme of people enjoying activities on Lopez, Orcas and San Juan Islands, as well as a “sense of place.”

Chosen images will be considered for use in the upcoming redesign of the Visitors Bureau website (www.VisitSanJuans.com) and other promotional materials.

The top three winners are:

— First Place, Kevin Holmes of Friday Harbor.

— Second Place, David St. George of Wenatchee

— Third Place, Lauren Cohen of Friday Harbor.

As the grand prize winner, Holmes will receive a getaway package for two, which includes roundtrip tickets aboard Kenmore Air to and from Seattle, two nights at Friday Harbor's Earthbox Motel & Spa, dinner at Coho Restaurant in Friday Harbor, and a gift basket from Pelindaba Lavender of San Juan Island.

Second and Third Place winners will receive gift baskets from island businesses.
