Anacortes School Board President Kristine Lytton was leading late Tuesday in the race for state House of Representatives, 40th District, position 1.

The winner will succeed Dave Quall, who is retiring.

Districtwide as of 8:17 p.m., Lytton, a Democrat, had 19,072 votes to 15,311 for Mike Newman, a Mount Vernon Republican and real estate agent.

In the county, Lytton led 4,108 to 2,431.
