Commissioners of San Juan County Fire District 3 will have a special meeting Wednesday, 3 p.m., in the Mullis Street Fire Station to discuss a proposed agreement to provide fire protection services in the Town of Friday Harbor.

The meeting is open to the public.

Commissioners will also discuss compensation for participants in the recent commissioners’ conference.

Town and island fire officials have been discussing the efficiencies that could result from having one fire department. Meanwhile, the town department is without a chief or training officer. Fire Commission Chairman Albert Olson said Tuesday that the interlocal agreement would be an interim agreement of about six months, at a cost of about $7,500 a month, until town and district officials can work out a longer-term agreement.
