The Friday Harbor baseball team claimed an eighth-place finish at State and a shot at advancing into the semifinal round by dealing Connell a 4-1 defeat in the opening round of the state 1A tournament.

But injuries, illness and the 90-plus degree heat at game time took their toll as an explosive Freeman squad put an end to the Wolverines post-season run with an 18-7 victory Saturday at Moses Lake.

Hopes for the Wolverines' tennis team came to an abrupt halt last weekend as everyone went down swinging.

"It was awful. We all bageled," junior Josh Lehr said of Friday Harbor’s tough time at the 1A Quad-District Boys Tennis Tournament Thursday and Friday at the University of Washington.

The latest graduating class of WSU/Beach Watchers program. Beach Watchers are dedicated to protecting San Juan County’s fragile environment through research-based public outreach. The third class of San Juan County/WSU Beach Watchers has graduated after attending nearly 100 hours of classroom training and field experience about the San Juans’ marine and watershed environment.

The graduation ceremony was April 24 in the Community Room at Skagit Valley College San Juan Center. The new class includes two from Lopez Island, 10 from Orcas Island and nine from San Juan Island.
