20th Century Fox buys rights to Colton Harris-Moore story

20th Century Fox has announced plans to make a movie about Colton Harris-Moore , based on Orcas writer Bob Friel's book proposal.
Variety reports the film about the notorious burglar is called "Taking Flight: The Hunt for a Young Outlaw."

Lead Detective Brent Johnson announced his candidacy Thursday for San Juan County sheriff.
His announcement came two days after Sheriff Bill Cumming announced he will not seek a seventh term in November.
Johnson, 55, lives in the North Forty neighborhood of San Juan Island with his wife, Lynne-Anne, and daughter, Lenora. He has lived in the San Juans since Cumming hired him as lead detective nearly eight years ago.

The word of the boat theft spread quickly, and so did the speculation. You-Know-Who was quickly a prime suspect in the minds of several islanders familiar with his exploits.
A Cape San Juan home was reportedly burglarized — neighbors said it occurred late May 13/early May 14 — and a 24-foot boat on the homeowner's private dock was stolen. Neighbors said the boat was later found grounded on Shark Reef. The Sheriff's Department reported in a press release May 14 that the boat was "beached."

On Tuesday, May 11, 2010, Hildegard Goss, 93, died of natural causes at Hamlet House on Lopez Island.
She is survived by her nieces, Christine Dahl-Sesby of Friday Harbor, Patricia Topper of Emmitsburg, Md., and her nephew, Derek Valley of Olympia. She was predeceased by her husband of more than 60 years, William Goss; her sister, Lillie Ericsson; and her brother, Bertil Valley.
Sheriff releases new images believed to be Colton Harris-Moore

The San Juan County Sheriff's Department on Wednesday released stills from a surveillance video they believe shows suspected "Barefoot Burglar" Colton Harris-Moore about to steal a boat from a Lopez Island marina earlier this month.
The images were recorded at 1:39 a.m. May 15, when a 30-foot boat was stolen from Spencer's Landing Marina. They show a young man moving about on the dock near where the vessel was taken.
"These current images are the only images available, and the public needs to be aware of his appearance as of Saturday, May 15," Sheriff Bill Cumming said. "This is the best picture available."
