Vehicular homicide trial scheduled for Sept. 15

Trial is expected to begin Sept. 15 in Superior Court for Robert Benedict, who is charged with vehicular manslaughter in a fatal crash March 5, 2007 near Cattle Point Estates.

Trial was scheduled to start May 5 but it was postponed to accommodate the prosecution’s request for a competency hearing, which was granted. Prosecuting Attorney Randy Gaylord said the hearing was scheduled to determine if Benedict is competent enough to assist in his own defense.

Ex-Okanogan man gets 60 days for misdemeanors
May 21 2008, 11:15 AM A former Okanogan man — a familiar face in local courts — was sentenced to 60 days in jail after pleading guilty to a pair of misdemeanors, including attempted possession of an explosive device.

On April 18, Timothy Merrill Florence, 37, pleaded guilty in San Juan County Superior Court to one count each of attempted possession of an explosive without a license and attempted possession of stolen property, both of which are gross misdemeanors.
