County Councilman Kevin Ranker has emerged the top choice of Democratic Party precinct committee officers in his bid for state Senate.

Precinct committee officers -- 23 from Whatcom County, 10 from San Juan, two from Skagit -- met in the Anacortes Library on Sunday.

Four-year scholarship for Wynn Barnard
May 21 2008, 10:31 AM Friday Harbor High School graduating senior Wynn Barnard has received a Sullivan Leadership Award to attend Seattle University.

The Sullivan Leadership Award is a four-year, full scholarship (tuition, room and board). More than 350 students from seven western states compete for the nine Sullivan Awards given annually in support of students who have promoted social justice through their service and leadership.

Wynn, the daughter of Bryn and Rebecca Barnard of Friday Harbor, plans to major in cultural anthropology.
