According to court documents, authorities claim the two men were plotting to steal prescription medication from a man whom they both knew and wearing masks when they knocked on the door of his Linder Street apartment on July 11, shortly before midnight. Both were unarmed.

July 27: A San Juan Island man claims the driver of a Dodge Durango threaten him with a knife during a confrontation over an exit-only sign at a Friday Harbor home remodel center. The 33-year-old, working security outside the center's parking lot at the time, claims the driver entered the parking lot via its exit, pulled out a knife when confronted, and then exited through the entrance, and sped away.

Convicted by a jury in mid-July, Daniel Glenn Roadruck was found guilty of two counts of second-degree burglary and of second-degree criminal trespass. He recently filed an appeal seeking to overturn the verdict at the state Court of Appeals.

Through the Harbor Life Ring program, a household is eligible to receive a grant to cover the cost of one month of utility bills, once a year. Applicants are screened by the Family Resource Center, a non-profit agency headquartered in Friday Harbor that provides a wide array of programs and services, as well as referrals in support of island families.

After clearing the harbor most of the fleet picked up the southeast 8-knot wind on a port tack and headed counterclockwise for Upright Channel. Only three boats chose to sail clockwise on a run up San Juan Channel. The counterclockwise boats made good progress until they reached Harney Channel, at which time the winds calmed and stalled the turn at Hankin Point.

Albert was born in Seattle, Washington where he attended Fauntleroy Grade School, James Madison Jr. High School and graduated from West Seattle High School, class of 1942. He resided for over 40 years in the San Juan Islands and was the owner of San Juan Ferry and Barge since 1976.

Hilda spent most of her adult life in Washington state. She and her husband Bill owned the Friday Harbor Bakery in the 1970s and ‘80s. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, family was the most important thing in Hilda’s life.

The first wave of fire fighters at the scene were able to battle the blaze from inside the building for only a few minutes, San Juan Island Fire Department Chief Steve Marler said. The blaze quickly made its way into the ceiling, spreading rapidly and forcing fire fighters to evacuate.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the coming days and weeks, all the people who were going to eat in downtown Friday Harbor, before the fire at Downriggers, are still going to eat there. If every restaurant hired one or two of the old Downriggers staff, the unemployment situation caused by the fire could be partially corrected.
