Enjoy a Splash of Summer Color: Summer Arts Fair, Lavender Festival this weekend
Splash of Summer Color Weekend is Saturday and Sunday.
This “Something for everyone” weekend is a time to celebrate the fragrant harvest at the San Juan Island Lavender Festival and the fine art at the San Juan Island Summer Arts Fair.
The Lavender Festival, at Pelindaba Lavender Farm, will offer cooking, cultivating and essential oil distillation demonstrations; craft workshops; farm tours; and music and picnics in the blooming organic fields. The Gatehouse Store has more than 200 handcrafted products. Festivalgoers can sample lavender ice cream and lavender lemonade while harvesting their own bouquets of fresh lavender.
The Lavender Festival is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Pelindaba Lavender Farm, 33 Hawthorne Lane. Visit www.pelindabalavender.com/visitingthefarm for directions.
The Summer Arts Fair, on Court Street in Friday Harbor, features local and regional artists, selling their works in a juried show. Activities include art demonstrations, a children’s area, Chalk it Up Sidewalk Art Contest, a food court, and live music all day on the Courthouse lawn.
The Arts Fair is from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Come early and enjoy a pancake breakfast by the Friday Harbor Fire Department Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to noon. In the nearby courthouse parking lot, purchase locally grown products at the Farmers Market on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“While you are in town, be sure to spend some time downtown,” Chamber Executive Director Vernadel Peterson said. “Shops provide many options for your wants and needs. There are numerous restaurants with options for everyone’s taste. Galleries and museums will entertain and fill you with knowledge. Plus there are lots of options for trips and activities. Stay a while and explore.”
Admissions to all events are free. For more information, contact the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce, 378-5240, or visit www.sanjuanisland.org.
