The San Juan Island International Documentary Film Festival hosts its inaugural reception with Emmy award-winning filmmaker László Pal on May 23, 3 p.m. at the San Juan Island Yacht Club.

The inaugural reception and showing of Pal's film, "Three Flags Over Everest, are free and open to the public. The event is being held to introduce islanders to the upcoming International Documentary Film Festival, April 1-3, 2011, on San Juan Island.

Created by the San Juan Island Rotary Club, the 2011 festival will present noteworthy documentary films that entertain, provoke thought, and promote respect for the vast array of different opinions and perspectives.

Pal predicts, “This festival will draw visitors from all over the world to our islands."

Pal’s award-winning “Three Flags over Everest” is about the record-breaking expedition of the 1990 Mount Everest International Peace Climb. An overview of the festival and future events, as well as opportunities to volunteer, will be provided.
