Actor Raul Julia-Levy helps welcome the orcas Saturday
Actor and activist Raul Julia-Levy (“The Champagne Game,” “Clash,” “Vengeance”) will give an update on his work with the “Free Lolita” campaign at The Whale Museum’s third annual “Celebration of the Orca Greeting Ceremony,” (PDF) Saturday at Mullis Community Senior Center.
The fund-raising dinner and auction begins at 6 p.m.
Highlights of the evening:
— An audio-visual program of an actual orca greeting ceremony will be presented by Dr. Val Veirs. Watch orcas “line up” to greet one another while listening to an underwater recording of their “conversations.”
— Courtesy of Orcas Island Eclipse Charters, attendees will have an opportunity to meet Julia-Levy during the reception. Market Chef is preparing dinner. Bakery San Juan is baking the bread. San Juan Roasters is brewing the coffee. Wine is vintage San Juan Vineyards.
— After dinner, Eugene Cuomo will kick off the live portion of the evening with a dessert auction. Dessert after dinner is available in this unique auction. Bid on “Death By Chocolate,” “Awesome Pecan Pie,” “Black & White Ice Cream Torte,” “Little Killer Cakes,” and other treats.
There is a twist to this year’s auction — 50 tickets will be sold for the big raffle. The winner of the raffle “wins” the right to select any item up for auction (silent, live or dessert).
Closing out the evening will be the live auction with more exciting items to bid on.
Four businesses are sponsoring the event: Islanders Insurance, Islanders Bank, Aiken Appraisal, and Petro San Juan.
For tickets, visit The Whale Museum or call (360) 378-4710, ext. 30. Proceeds support the museum’s education and research programs.
