The Town of Friday Harbor celebrates its centennial Feb. 9. On Feb. 2, 1909, residents voted 70-55 to incorporate Friday Harbor as a fourth-class town. On Feb. 8, the San Juan County Commission counted the ballots in a public session, then signed the incorporation document. The county auditor transmitted the document to the Secretary of State's office and incorporation took effect the following day.

In the last 100 years, our seaside village has inspired artists, authors, journalists, musicians and poets.

SanJuanJournal.com brings the music to you in this "Friday Harbor in Song" series. The series began Jan. 14 with the Battlefield Band's "Leaving Friday Harbor." It continues today with the Battlefield Band's "Haro Strait." Next up: The Solar Siblings' "Island Life."
