Two teams claim share of Celebrity Golf Classic crown
Horse race? More like a photo finish.
Two teams lit up the fairway, gobbled up the greens and grabbed a share of the coveted crown at the 28th Annual Islanders Bank San Juan Celebrity Golf Classic John O. Linde Memorial, May 30-31 at San Juan Golf and Country Club.
The winning number? That would be 58, or, 14 strokes under par over 18 holes.
Celebrity captains Jeff Jager, a former University of Washington and NFL placekicker, and television news anchorwoman Margo Myers led their respective teams to victory in the yearly fundraiser and golf competition, an 18-hole golf scramble format.
Proceeds from this year's Classic, the island's longest-running charitable, which, in addition to participation by nearly two dozens celebrities from fields of regional sports and entertainment, features live and silent auctions, as well as a tasty barbecued salmon dinner, will benefit six local non-profits: Lighthouse Preschool, Friday Harbor High School S' Club, the American Legion, Relay Friday Harbor, San Juan Historical Museum and Band Family and Friends.
In addition to captain Jager, members of winning "Team Jager" are: Ron Bates, Joe Gamez, Phil Kirchhoffer and Sandy Montana. Capt. Myers was joined by Ken Evans, Dave McNeil and Dylan, Jeff and Irv Hoch.
