The newly created San Juan State Parks Area also has a newly appointed manager.

Ted Schlund, a 13-year state parks veteran, will oversee Moran, Obstruction Pass and Spencer Spit state parks, as well as San Juan Marine North and South. Schlund, a 14-year San Juan County resident, was formerly manager of the San Juan Marine Area.

The appointment by the state Parks and Recreation Commission became May 16, and Schlund will be headquartered at Orcas Island’s Moran State Park.
