Peace Island Medical Center’s collection of art, as well as many of artists, will be featured in “Art in the Afternoon”, at the medical center, Saturday, May 18, at 4 p.m.

Presented by Peace Island Volunteers, the event is an opportunity to enjoy and learn more about the medical center’s numerous, various pieces of artwork. Admission is $45 per person, and includes wine and hors d’oeuvres.

Great Blue HeronThe events kicks off at 4:15 p.m., with blessings of the welcoming sun, “Hawk Sun Mask”, above the fireplace in the entry, created by Kwagiulth artist Tom Hunt. The blessings are gifts from the “Chief George Hunt Dance Group”, named after Tom Hunt’s father. Tours get under way at 5 p.m. The event also features a silent auction of art donated by a number of artists. The auction closes at 5:45 p.m.; proceeds go toward the purchase of a self-use blood pressure kiosk to be installed at PIMC.

Register by May 10, by sending a check to Peace Island Volunteers, P.O. Box 2101, Friday Harbor. Peace Island Volunteers will have admission priority, join in advance — $25 annual dues — or at the door on the day of the event. For more info, visit, www.peaceislandvolunteers.org.

Peace Island Volunteers support the medical center through activities such as, holiday decorating, outdoor trail development, providing reading materials and articles of clothing for patients.
