Whalen nets early lead in Frank Wilson Memorial Derby

San Juan Island's Carter Whalen landed an 11.18 pounder to claim the lead at the end of Week 1 of the Frank Wilson Memorial Winter Blackmouth Derby. Whalen earned a $50 gift certificate from King's Marine thanks to the catch.

Pat Nash took second place for a 10.6-pound catch and Matt Chevalier ended up in third, with a 8.28-pound fish.

The derby runs Feb. 1 - April 15. The entry fee is $50, tickets are available through April 8. For info, 378-4593 or marine@kings-market.com.
