Annual 3-day summer 4-H horse show gets under way Friday at the Friday Harbor fairgrounds
June 24, 2011 · Updated 6:09 PM
The annual summer show of the San Juan and Orcas 4-H horse clubs kicked off Friday, June 24, at the fairgrounds in Friday Harbor.
The 3-day event opened with Dressage and Jumping events, and will be followed by "Performance" shows on Saturday, and then close Sunday with the fast-paced and always entertaining Western Games competition. Shows begin each day at 9 a.m.
This year's show is the first to feature the newly installed horse-arena fence, a project launched by Friday Harbor's Chelan Taylor. A veteran 4-H rider and 2011 graduate of Friday Harbor High School, Taylor led a fundraising drive and helped to generate donations and cash to replace the fairgrounds aging arena fence as her high school senior community project.
