In front of a full house at an event filled afternoon, Friday Harbor’s Animal Protection Society Luau on the Lawn was one of their most successful fundraisers to date. Proceeds will go toward their capital campaign, titled “New Home New Hope,” during their auction.

“We also have a matching grant, so this will actually be doubled,” said the evening auctioneer, Jay Friske.

Actor Neal McDonoughh made an appearance, along with his wife, Ruve’ Robertson, and their children. McDonough stepped up to the plate auctioning off a visit to the set of one of his movies, raising close to $20,000 for the shelter.

The first ever Amy Lear volunteer award, Compassion in Action, was awarded to Dave and Nancy Harvey.

“Even though Nancy is allergic to cats, they would not leave the cat area until every last cat had equal attention. I’ve watched them scrambling up ladders just to make sure each animal had the attention it deserved,” Jan Murphy, FHAPS Operations Manager said.

The frosting on the cake of the evening was the Tahitian dance troupe, “TeFare O Tamatoa” who kept guest mesmerised by their graceful dancing.
