Tree lighting, holiday events on San Juan Island

Submitted by San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce

Friday Harbor Winterfest starts Saturday, Dec. 1, with the Island Lights Festival. This kickoff event for the holiday season is on a Saturday this year so more families are able to attend. San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce is partnering with The Whale Museum, Island Rec, the Riptide Cafe, Benj Ross and the San Juan Islands Agricultural Guild.

The fun-filled evening will start with holiday treats and crafts at The Whale Museum, from 3:30-5 p.m. At 5 p.m., attendees will start to gather on Spring Street, between First and Front streets, to await the arrival of Santa. The Harmoneers, which is the Friday Harbor Elementary School choir, will lead caroling while attendees sip hot chocolate and coffee provided by the Riptide Cafe.

Santa Claus will arrive and turn on the lights, followed by more caroling before everyone heads to Brickworks for the Agricultural Guild’s Soup with Santa. Upon arriving at Brickworks, there will be pictures with Santa, crafts with Island Rec and the San Juan Islands Agricultural Guild will have local harvest soups, macaroni and cheese and spiced local apple cider for sale.
