The Salish Sea Music Festival performs Concerti

“Concerti by Bach” will be performed Friday, May 24, at 7 p.m. at Brickworks in Friday Harbor. “Concerti” consists of four of Johann Sebastian Bach’s greatest orchestral works: the Brandenburg Concerto, No. 5,Triple Concerto for harpsichord, flute, violin, and orchestra, Violin Concerto in A Minor and the Suite in B Minor for flute and strings. Admission is by suggested donation: $15, $20 or $25 (a free-will offering), and those 18 and under are free. This outstanding all-Bach program of concerti performed on period instruments featuring soloists harpsichordist Jonathan Oddie, violinist Carrie Krause and baroque flutist Jeffrey Cohan along with string chamber orchestra. Members of the chamber orchestra include baroque violinists Elizabeth Phelps and Courtney Kuroda, baroque violist Stephen Creswell and baroque cellist Caroline Nicolas.

For the 2019 season, the Salish Sea Early Music Festival is presenting eight performances in Friday Harbor and 84 performances all around the Salish Sea of early chamber music performed on period instruments. The festival has presented countless first performances in modern times of period instrument renditions of early works, and is proud to be an affiliate organization of Early Music America, which develops, strengthens, and celebrates early music and historically informed performance in North America. Flutist Jeffrey Cohan is the festival’s artistic director.
