Island Rec and Friday Harbor FC partnered, over July Fourth, with Western Washington University’s women’s and men’s soccer to host the first WWU soccer camp in Friday Harbor. Over 75 players ranging in ages 6 to 18 came out to John O. Linde Community fields to participate. WWU women’s head coach Travis Connell and men’s head coach Greg Brisbon, along with assistant coaches, worked with players on technical and tactical skills. Many parents were impressed by the instruction and level of engagement of the players. The coaches also hosted a clinic for local volunteer soccer coaches. It was a fun camp for all involved.
A big thank you to local businesses that helped sponsor the event by donating food and/or activities for the coaches and families: Bakery San Juan, Discovery Sea Kayaks, and Western Prince Whale and Wildlife Tours. Additionally, thank you to Coach Van for helping making it possible.
