San Juan Historical Museum open houses

Submitted by San Juan Historical Museum

As part of “History Lives Here” month, during the month of May and in preparation for the summer visitor season, the San Juan Historical Society and Museum will have two open houses to welcome the community and interested visitors to this popular attraction in Friday Harbor. The museum’s eight buildings and grounds will be open free to the public on Saturday, May 5 and Saturday, May 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bring a picnic lunch to share with your family and friends on the grounds, take time visiting the buildings and discover some island history along the way. Learn about a few of the exciting plans in the works for the island historical museum. The museum will be opening for summer self-guided tours beginning May 17, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturday, through September. Admission is $8 per adult person; $5 for ages 6-17; free for those under 6 and over 100; and $20 for a family up to four. Guided tours for four or more people may be arranged. This tour will be 1.5 hours, led by a staff member or volunteer well versed in island history and must be reserved in advance. San Juan Historical Society and Museum always welcome volunteers, whether they are full-time or part-time residents. There are a variety of ongoing projects that are challenging, interesting and give volunteers the opportunity to make a difference in the community. Contact the museum at 360-378-3919 or museum_admin@sjmuseum.org.
