San Juan County youth face-covering contest

Submitted by San Juan Island Prevention Coalition

Washington state requires face mask coverings indoors and outdoors if you can’t keep 6 feet distance in public spaces. This is a public health campaign by our youth prevention leaders of Rock Solid, and San Juan Island Prevention Coalition, Lopez Island Prevention Coalition and Coalition for Orcas Youth helping to bring awareness that we can help stop the spread of COVID-19 by wearing a mask around others.

“Youth teaching youth is an effective strategy in prevention. When Dr. James from the SJC Board of Health mentioned us in his meeting a few weeks ago to help support our peers wearing masks; we helped create this contest on our Instagram account @sjipreventioncoalition,” Luke Fincher, a Rock Solid youth, said. “It’s essential to wear a mask in public to help reduce the spread of COVID in our community. It’s a simple act of kindness.”

RULES:

Contest runs July 1-Aug. 31, on the San Juan Island Prevention Coalition’s Instagram page.

Only family-friendly, healthy message designs will be included in the drawings. No profanity or inappropriate images, please.

Open only to San Juan County, Washington, residents ages 5-21 years old. Parents and Guardians may post an image of their child (5-21 years old) wearing a mask following the entry directions, so their child may be included in the drawings for a prize, too.

All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. PST, Aug. 31. Winners will be announced by Sept. 4 via our Instagram stories. No purchase necessary. Prizes include $50 gift cards for local businesses for four winners — two winners will be selected by random from all entries, plus two winners in a Judge’s Choice from homemade versions of a face covering, so start creating your own mask today!
