Submitted by the San Juan Community Theatre

The “Foundations of Acting and Character Development” is the focus of a two-day workshop for islanders at San Juan Community Theatre on Saturday and Sunday, Aug.2 6-27.

Portland’s Jonah Weston, of the founding Artistic Director of Action Talks Production and Theatre Now, will lead the workshop in the Gubelman Theatre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Weston has been acting since he was 12 years old and for the past five years, has produced, starred and toured nationally in Shel Silverstein’s epic one-man play, “The Devil and Billy Markham.” Weston performs that play in the Gubelman Theatre on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 25-26 at 7:30 p.m. Registration is $60 at www.sjctheatre.org or at the SJCT box office at 378-3210.

The workshop is limited to 12 students, ages 16 years and older and will highlight scene work and character development; as well as text analysis and character building through text work.

Weston’s workshop and appearance at SJCT is part of the Theatre’s Off the Rock series, which is dedicated to showcasing contemporary performance, both onstage and in the educational setting.
