Contributed Shaw Island School students won an award for the earthquake preparedness video.

Submitted by San Juan County Department of Emergency Management

More than 1,300 islanders participated in last week’s ShakeOut earthquake exercise — the most ever. That includes school districts, government departments, businesses, non-profits, and families and individuals. Thanks to everyone who signed up and spent a few minutes thinking about getting ready for the inevitable quake.
