One-day volunteer opportunities with United Way of San Juan County

United Way of San Juan County and partner organizations will host the annual Day of Caring Volunteer event on Saturday, Sept. 23 on Lopez, Orcas and San Juan Islands.

This annual event shows what volunteers can accomplish a single day and a demonstration of what is possible on the other 364 days of the year.

San Juan Island: (Meet at the United Way office or go directly to the sites. Bring garden gloves and tools, if possible.)

9 a.m. to 1 p.m., landscaping at Friday Harbor Elementary School

9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Clean up at Jackson’s Beach

9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Landscaping and cleaning at the Mullis Senior Center

Lopez:

10 a.m., landscaping and weeding at the Children’s Center.

Orcas:

9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Orcas Island Elementary School

10 a.m. to 1 p.m., paint outdoor playground equipment at the Children’s House

9 a.m. to 1 p.m., apple picking and gardening at the Montessori
