Local Thanksgiving events

It is easy to celebrate Thanksgiving in Friday Harbor this year. Events range from the outdoors —participating in the annual 5K Turkey Trot or hiking up Mount Grant — to staying warm indoors at the Artisans Holiday Market.

Thursday, Nov. 24:

• 9 a.m., 12th Annual Turkey Trot, Friday Harbor Suites. 5K dash to benefit the food bank. Registration for adults is $5 plus 2 cans of food, youth $2 plus 2 cans of food. Info: 378-4449.

• Noon – 5 p.m. Community Thanksgiving Dinner, Mullis Community Sernior Center, Friday Harbor. Free. Turkey, potatoes, pie and all the traditional fixings in a communal setting. Info: Minnie and Jim Kynch, 378-7040 or email FHThanksgiving@gmail.com.

Friday, Nov. 25

• 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Land Bank Turkey Walk-not-Trot Trail, Mount Grant Preserve. You’ve eaten the leftovers; you’ve watched the bowl games (your team won!); you’ve visited all the local haunts; now what? Come out for the third annual Turkey Walk-not-Trot Trail event. Share the preserve, and its 360-degree views, while sipping hot cider with your visiting friends and family. Free, dress for the weather. Parking is limited, carpooling encouraged. Dogs on leashes welcome. Info: email tanjaw@rockisland.com or phone Tanja Williamson at 370-7655.

Friday-Saturday, Nov. 25-26

• 10 a.m., San Juan Island Artisans Annual Holiday Market, Friday Harbor Elementary School gym. Unique, hand-made creations by island artists, on sale just in time for the gift-giving season. Island-made foods, scenic photography, paintings, jewelry, botanical products and soaps, and more. Fundraiser for Island Artisans Scholarship Fund.
