Island Rec offers DIY Strumstick class

Submitted by Island Rec

Island Rec is offering a do-it-yourself strumstick class. Strumsticks are essentially dulcimers that are played like a guitar and are simple to learn. Attendees will make strumsticks from kits, which are being produced by Friday Harbor High School STEM students. Participants will also receive lessons on how to play the strum stick and end up with a beautiful instrument. This class costs $45 and discounts are available. This instrument typically costs $150 to $200, so this is a great deal. Classes will be weekdays, during the school’s mid-winter break, from Feb. 19 through 23, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Contact Island Rec to register at 360-378-4953 or stop by the office at 580 Guard St., weekdays, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The early fee deadline is Feb. 15.
