Friday Harbor Presbyterian Church invites the public to a attend a visiting gospel concert, IJenNeh, to be held Sunday, Aug., 4, at 4 pm in the sanctuary, featuring Lasana Kanneh as lead. All are welcome, bring family and friends! He will also join the church for worship at the regular 10 a.m. service.

IJenNeh (which means “Heaven” and is pronounced “eye-gin-nay”) began as “Echoes of the Blind.” The group was composed of blind men and women who sang for food on the war-ravaged streets of Liberia. Lead singer Lasana Kanneh remembers singing in the midst of rebel fighting with bullets flying overhead. They were sometimes forced to sing for infamous war-lords. Kanneh escaped war, persecution, poverty, abuse and personal failure to bring songs of faith, hope and restoration across America, he said. “IJenNeh is beautiful African music that is good for your soul.”

There will be a good-will offering to support them, but there is no charge for admission to the concert. Friday Harbor Presbyterian Church welcomes all islanders and visitors to come enjoy this unique event!
