The second annual Oscars Celebration was held at the Brickworks on Saturday, March 3 and a great celebration was had by all.
Upon entering the Brickworks, a red carpet and topping covered with twinkling Chinese lanterns set the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre theme spreading through the building. Inside, there were “stars” everywhere. The tables set to perfection, as was the presentation, food and attendees.
Star impersonators mingled with the distinguished guests while being served by Friday Harbor Film Festival volunteers, an assortment of appetizers and wine. Guests crowded around the silent auction sheets to compete for so many donated offerings ranging from artistic jewelry to propane fills.
Guest host Kent Loomer presented the Oscar-nominated movies along with the crowd bidding live auction of tremendous packages that ranged from skippered cruises on a 50-foot yacht to gourmet dinners served and prepared by the Friday Harbor mayor. Prizes were awarded to movie star look-alikes who really made the night stand out. Finishing out the list of prizes was a ballot of all of the Oscar nominees and the winner getting the most nominations correct got the grand prize.
The Friday Harbor Film Festival board thanks all of the sponsors, attendees and volunteers. Thank you for keeping this film festival going.
