Submitted by The San Juan Island Community Foundation.

The San Juan Island Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Dr. John Moalli, Michael Soltman and Duncan Wilson have joined the Board of Directors.

The last few years has seen the rapid growth in the Foundation and with it, a responsibility to donors, local nonprofits and the community at large. John, Michael and Duncan will significantly increase the Foundation’s capabilities to meet the growing demand for philanthropic services.

John Moalli is already an active volunteer on the island and his work with local high school students with disabilities inspired him to develop and teach a course on design for the disabled at Stanford University where he is an Adjunct Professor in the school of engineering. John also sits on the board of trustees of the Spring Street International School. He earned his doctorate from MIT and still enjoys a rewarding career at Exponent, a scientific and engineering consulting company. John brings an analytical, compassionate and hands-on approach to local challenges.

Duncan Wilson is a familiar face on San Juan Island. Duncan is an attorney and has served as the Town of Friday Harbor Administrator for the last ten years. Duncan also serves on the San Juan Community Theatre Board. He is a graduate of Western Washington University with a BA degree in Business Administration and obtained his law degree from the University of Puget Sound Law School. Duncan brings a host of administrative and organizational management skills to the Foundation. His experience as Town Administrator is significant as the Foundation continues to develop public-private partnerships with local and state governments.

Michael Soltman is recently retired from public education and many Islanders will remember him as Superintendent of the San Juan Island School District from 2002-2009. Throughout his thirty-five year career in education, Michael made time to serve on a variety of boards and committees including educational foundations, non-profit child/family focused organizations, and professional organizations. A large portion of the Foundation’s work supports educational opportunities across multiple areas of interest. Michael’s expertise will help inform and grow this important area.

Welcome, John, Michael and Duncan!
