Calling all youth wilderness enthusiasts. Washington State Parks would like to invite all children ages 4-12 to earn their junior ranger badge. The Junior Ranger program has been around for more than 100 years and was one of the first National Park Service youth programs. Now you can earn your Junior Ranger badge at state and national parks across the United States.

Becoming a Washington State Parks Junior Ranger means joining an ever-growing team of young people who love our state’s beautiful, precious places and want to serve and protect them. The Washington State Parks Junior Ranger motto is “Play. Learn. Protect.” Follow these steps to earn your Washington State Parks Junior Ranger badge:

• Visit a participating state park, like Moran, with your parent or guardian.

• Once you are at the park, ask a park staff member how you can get your free Junior Ranger Booklet.

• Fill out your booklet. Use the symbols in the book to complete the activities that are right for your age. You will learn a lot about parks from this book. If you are with your friends or family, share the fun with them, too!

• Return your completed booklet to the park’s staff. You will then get to say the pledge and receive a badge.
