I would just like to express my appreciation to Terry Turner, chair of the San Juan County Marine Resources Committee, as well as the other committee members for organizing a respectful and informative hearing on March 1.
The purpose of the meeting was to gather citizen input on a proposed whale protection zone to support the recovery of Southern resident killer whales. More than 30 people testified –pro and con – on the issue, and though feelings ran high, everyone was allowed to speak and be heard.
This was due to MRC members establishing a courteous and civil tone at the outset of the hearing. My thanks go to the committee, those who testified, and all who attended.
