From time to time, San Juan Island EMS and/or the Peace Island Medical Center Emergency Room staff conduct what is called a Critical Incident Stress Debrief. These gatherings are conducted in the wake of particularly difficult emergency calls which may have had a significant emotional effect on even seasoned emergency services staff/volunteers.
A CISD was recently initiated and conducted by PIMC with an invitation to those EMTs/medics who may have been involved with the incident. I wish to extend my thanks and to express how impressed I was with the quality of the debrief and the fact that the senior and top management of PIMC showed up to support the troops. These managers are busy people and it is significant that they were concerned enough to take the time to be present at the meeting. Bravo!
