A public reception is scheduled Jan. 2, 5-8 p.m. in the San Juan Community Theatre lobby for a new show, “New Work New Ways,” with paintings by Annie Howell-Adams created over the past year.

The show celebrates her induction into the Arts Student League of New York.

The show runs through Jan. 31. Lobby hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and during evening performances.

Howell-Adams has explored new ways to represent her favorite subject, San Juan Island. Her work has one foot in the abstract world and the other in the representational world. Surfaces have surprising textures, the brushwork has vitality. Many of her pieces capture a feeling of place.
