Classic Bard 'rom-com' featured in Stage Left's 'Shakespeare Under the Stars'
Shipwrecks, disguises, brash or sometimes foolhardy suitors, mistaken identities… sounds like the cornerstones of a Shakespeare comedy.
And, it is.
Fresh off a week-long tour of the "outer" islands (Orcas, Lopez, Shaw… and Waldron), Island Stage Left returns home to San Juan Island to present "Shakespeare Under the Stars," featuring the Bard's time-tested (400-plus years!) rib-tickling romantic comedy, "Twelfth Night" beginning tonight, July 17, at the Roche Harbor Resort Outdoor Stage.
The curtain goes up at 8:15 p.m. Admission is free; donations encouraged.
The production's six-week run on San Juan Island opens at Roche Harbor, with Thursday-Sunday performances, July 17 thru Aug. 3, and then shifts to Stage Left's home stage, at 1062 Wold Road, for a three-week finale of Friday-Sunday shows, Aug. 8 thru Aug. 24. All performances begin at 8:15 p.m.
Each show is festival seating, first-come, first served, and play-goers are encouraged to bring a jacket, warm clothing or blankets to help ward off the night chill, as temperatures drop as the sun slips under the horizon.
