San Juan Library hosts non-book club book club | A&E Calendar

Literary Salon, 7 p.m., San Juan Island Library. Drop in to visit with a group of folks who love books but don’t want to join a book club. Meet in front of the fireplace on each third Thursday of the month to discuss books.
— Spring Street Discovery Speakers Series presents Northwest chef Christina Orchid, 7 p.m., Pelindaba Downtown. Free and open to the public. The monthly series brings people who have achieved great things to speak with students who will have a chance to interview them. Orchid is owner of Christina’s on Orcas Island, rated as the premier restaurant in the San Juans by “Northwest Best Places.” She is also the author of “Christina’s Cookbook: Stories from a Northwest Island Kitchen,” to be released in October by Sasquatch Books..

— San Juan County Land Bank weed pull, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Helpers wanted to pull Tansy Ragwort at the Land Bank’s Upright Head Preserve on Lopez Island. Meet at the upper ferry parking lot. Bring gloves. Call 378-4402.
— Driftwood box making with Richard Nevels, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Westcott Bay Sculpture Park. Learn to create your very own driftwood box to take home at the end of the class.
