Bewitched by 'That Ol' Devil Moon'; SJ Singers spring concert

A “Calling to the Moon” and Earth Day weekend provide the musical backdrop for San Juan Singers’ spring concert at San Juan Community Theater, Saturday, 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, 2 p.m.
Directed by Angel Michaels, the community chorus tackles “That Ol’ Devil Moon,” a tapestry of moon enchantments that is jazzy, romantic, poetic, and silly.
The concert features Bert Dayton arrangements of Van Morrison’s "Moondance" and two classics, "Stardust", a female trio of the chorus, and "Blue Moon", a duet, and more.
Dayton, a 25-year veteran of San Juan Singers, said, “arranging is a fun thing to do, kind of like working on a puzzle.”
Will Allen researched Native American history for her piece, “Year of Native Moons”. The song journeys through a year of full moons, her third composition for San Juan Singers.
Also performing as part of the show is the Friday Harbor Elementary School Chorus, directed by Amy Hull.
Tickets are $17 for adults, $9 for student reserved and $5 student RUSH at the door.
