Annual Old-fashioned Holiday Social
November 29, 2011 · Updated 2:29 PM
Ornaments are hung on the tree and a wide array of cookies are tasted. The two fires crackles and warms up the men dressed in military dress and the women dressed petticoats and colorful dresses.
These are scenes from the Annual Old-fashioned Holiday Social for tree-trimming and a cookie potluck, Saturday, Dec. 10, 12 - 3 p.m., at the old British Royal Marine Light Infantry barracks building at English Camp hosted by the San Juan Island National Historical Park staff and volunteers.
Visitors bring cookies and ornaments to hang on the tree, which will be decorated just as it was likely done in the mid-1860s when the camp was in its heyday.
The National Park’s 2011 Volunteer of the Year award and volunteer recognition is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Admission is free. The park will provide beverages, and there will be storytelling and folk dancing .
A motorized golf cart will be available in the English Camp parking area for persons with accessibility needs. For info, call 378-2240, ext.2233.
