Are you 18-years-old or younger and a fan of musicals where the main character flips her fins as she sings about the burden of being half-fish and half-girl? Well, now is your chance to join the cast of one mermaid’s friends on land and under the sea.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre’s annual visit to the San Juan Community Theatre features a new version of the age-old tale “The Little Mermaid” full of humor, plot twists and music.
Children entering first through twelfth grade may audition for the production on Monday, June 27 at 9:00 a.m., inside the theater’s Whittier Theatre at 100 Second Street, Friday Harbor. Up to 60 youngsters will be cast in the play, which comes with its own costumes, props, sets and director.
Children do not need to prepare for the audition. Immediately following the audition and casting, the first rehearsal will be held and then rehearsals will be Tuesday through Friday. The play will then be presented at the theater on Saturday, July 2 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Tickets are $19 for adults, $9 for student reserved, with $5 student RUSH available one hour before each performance. A private donor has made provision for free tickets to anyone needing financial assistance to attend a theater event.
Missoula Children’s Theatre has been touring around the country for the past 38 years, bringing teams of actors and directors into more than 1,200 communities each year.
